XACOBEA ROUTE FOUNDATION OF THE AROUSA SEA AND ULLA RIVER

THE RIVER MARITIME SANTIAGO ROAD

The Xacobean Route of the sea of Arousa and Ulla recalls the transfer of the remains of the Apostle Santiago, being founded by José Luis Sanchez-Agustino López, after its presentation at the Provincial Assembly of Tourism of A Toxa in 1963 as a tourist route and of economic promotion.

From that germ was born the currently called Fundación Ruta Xacobea do mar de Arousa e Ulla, which is made up of town halls of Boiro, Cambados, Catoira, Dodro, Meaño, Meis, O Grove, Padrón, A Pobra do Caramiñal, Pontecesures, Rianxo, Riveira, Rois, Santiago de Compostela, Sanxenxo, Valga, Vilagarcía de Arousa and Vilanova de Arousa.

A SEA OF ROUTES

Following testimonies and tradition, the XACOBEA DO MAR DE AROUSA E ULLA ROUTE recalls the passage of the ship that carried the remains of the Apostle Santiago from Jaiffa in Palestine to Iria Flavia, in the current town of Padrón.

Unique in the world, today two land routes join both banks of the Ría de Arousa that complete the pilgrimage to Compostela. Thus were born the TRASLATIO NORTE LAND PATH and the TRASLATIO SUR LAND PATH.

A historically fertile land from the literary point of view, has allowed us that through the life and work of renowned authors such as Camilo José Cela, Rosalía de Castro, Ramón Mª del Valle-Inclán, Alfonso D. Rodríguez Castelao and a long etc we have been able to structure a LITERARY ROUTE DO MAR DE AROUSA E ULLA.
